The Assistant Director keeps a set running so the director can stay entirely inside the film. It is one of the best seats in the house to learn the craft, and at First December Films you will learn it beside directors who win at the highest level in the world.
This is a demanding, hands-on role for someone who wants to direct one day and knows the way there runs through the AD chair.
What you'll do
- Support the director through prep, shoot and post.
- Break down scripts, build shot lists, and help plan the shoot day.
- Run the floor on set: manage the schedule, the cast, the background and the pace.
- Coordinate between the director and every department so nothing stalls.
- Help run casting, recces, look tests and rehearsals.
- Keep continuity and detail tight across every setup.
- Anticipate what the director needs before they ask.
What we're looking for
- 2 to 4 years assisting directors on commercials or films.
- A strong visual sense and a genuine love of the craft of directing.
- Organized, fast, and calm when a set gets loud.
- The humility to serve the film and the ambition to grow.
- A degree is not required. Taste and hunger are.
