An edit is where a film is truly made or lost. The Senior Editor at First December Films is trusted with rushes from some of the best directors and cinematographers in the country, and asked to find the version of the film that nobody else could see.
This is a craft role for someone who lives in the timeline and understands that a single frame, a held beat or a hard cut can change everything.
What you'll do
- Edit TVCs, brand films and digital films from rushes to locked cut.
- Work closely with directors to realize their vision, and push it further where you can.
- Build multiple cutdowns and versions from a master film (hero, 60s, 30s, 15s, 6s, vertical).
- Craft rhythm, pace and story, and make ruthless choices in service of the film.
- Manage the edit through client and agency rounds without losing the soul of the cut.
- Work cleanly with the colour, sound and VFX teams for a seamless finish.
- Keep projects, media and versions organized and backed up.
What we're looking for
- 5 to 8 years editing advertising films, with a reel that proves storytelling instinct, not just technical skill.
- Mastery of Premiere Pro and / or DaVinci Resolve, plus a working knowledge of the wider finishing pipeline.
- An instinct for music, sound design and how they carry a cut.
- The maturity to take direction and the confidence to have a point of view.
- Someone who cares about the last 5 percent that most people never notice.
Bonus points
- After Effects and motion graphics ability.
- A reel including award-winning or widely-seen campaign work.
